Anak Krakatoa Sunda Strait, West Java
Anak Krakatoa (Child of Krakatoa), erupted from Sunda Strait in 1927. The new volcano is situated in centre of what remains of the original Krakatoa, which was destroyed in a cataclysmic explosion August 26–27, 1883. The volcano is continually erupting hot gases, rocks and lava, with warnings to keep 3 kilometers from the island. |
